One Thing

number1

“One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple” (Psalm 27:4 ESV). At one time, a famous TV personality would conclude his daytime show by informing his audience of “Just One More Thing.” That’s my goal in sharing this scripture, to remind us of “one thing.” In life many of us think that if we can get that “one thing” started or done, we can see our way clear and be on our way. Sometimes that can be very true, but sometimes not. Do you know many purchase lottery tickets in hopes of getting one thing… that winning ticket? They think by hitting the big lotto they will be set for life. Sadly, statistic proves different. As quickly as their fortune came, many lost it. They lost it by failing to do wisely just one thing… investing.

I assure you, there is one thing that supersedes any of our earthly endeavors. There is one thing we can invest in to secure our life through eternity. That one thing is to seek to dwell in the house of the Lord forever, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple. Is that your one thing? Is that your desire? That “one thing” will make the difference between living a life of bondage to living a life of eternal freedom in Christ. No matter our desires on earth, let’s be sure to make our ultimate desire is to seek the Lord and make heaven our home… just that “one thing.”

I will keep on thanking God for reminding me of what takes priority in this life in order to gain eternal life. By Hertistine Washington/keeponthanking.com

The Loan

“The earth is the LORD’S and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein, for he has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers’ (Psalm 24:1-2 ESV).

I ask myself, what did I make? What did I create?

Nothing I have, I own. All I have is a loan.

What was made, God gave. What was created was His design.

Nothing I have is mine.

I’m thankful for His gracious loan

He shares with me towards my journey home.

Children Behave

“For our boast is this, the testimony of our conscience, that we behaved in the world with simplicity and godly sincerity, not by earthly wisdom but by the grace of God, and supremely so toward you” (2 Corinthians 1:12 ESV). What a great testimony of conscience to know that you have behaved right in the eyes of God and before man! Paul claimed no credit. He gave all glory to God. He had no fear of boasting in the wisdom and grace of God that caused him to behave in the way he did toward others.

As I continued meditating on this scripture, my mind reflected on thoughts of my mom. Sometimes as children, when one of us would become a little rambunctious, she would say, “Y’all behave now. Stop that.” If we didn’t, we knew what was coming next! I’m thankful my mom left me with the memory and understanding that she wanted her children to act right in hopes that we would learn how to behave among ourselves and toward others.

More so, since I’ve accepted Jesus as my personal Savior, I’m learning how important it is, and how much Jesus wants me to behave as a child of God. I pray that my life would be a testimony that I behaved in a way that honored Him. I must not behave with pride and dishonestly, but “with simplicity and godly sincerity, not by earthly wisdom, but by the grace of God, and supremely so toward you.”

I will keep on thanking God for His teaching that reminds me to behave. By Hertistine Washington/keeponthanking.com.

Three Fierce Friends

20180114_135305-1

The Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth comes knowledge and understanding” (Proverbs 2:6 ESV). Have you ever had a friend/s that had your back no matter what? Warn you of impending danger? Willing to stand in your behalf, regardless? Will rescue you if you allowed them too. Their desire  for you is to live and have the best life possible? Who wouldn’t want three fierce friends like these?

I would like for you to meet my three fierce friends. They are God’s wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. We meet in His Word. What makes them so fierce, you may ask? They are adament in combating foolishness, ignorance, and confusion. They are willing to be your confidant if you ask God.

What’s so great about these three is the fact that we can use them as much as we like and  they won’t be insulted; nor will they cry or call the police. They want to be used. Simply, ask God and He will graciously grant them to the willing heart. I assure you, having fierce friends like these will make our lives much better. God says, “making your ear attentive to wisdom, and inclining your heart to understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God” (Proverbs 2:2-5

That’s Love

love-of-god-tree-heart

A person who continually reveals a heart of love one might say, now that’s love in action. For genuine love has a kind of majestic power that penetrates straight to the heart and causes it to do something. It’s a love like no other. That kind of love is God’s love; for God is Love. His love motivates the heart to fill the world with acts of love.

In the Bible, we read about many of love’s attributes. Each one exemplifies how unselfish love is. Just to name a few: “Love is patient and kind; love doesn’t to envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth” (1 Corinthians 13:6 ESV). Now that’s love.

God didn’t just talk love. His love moved on its own to reveal its love willingly without grudging or urging, forcing or demanding. That love was demonstrated through His Son, Jesus our Lord. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but  have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved” (John:16 KJV) Now, that’s love. Let everyday be a day of love.

I will keep on thanking God for His ever saving and unselfish love. By Hertistine Washington/keeponthanking.com.
