“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV). Happy New Year everyone! I thank God for this New Year and the newness it will bring. We all are familiar with the phrase, “Out With the Old; in With the New.” Though it’s a simple phrase, it means different things to different people.
It could be a bit confusing depending on how you look at it. Out with the old… what? In with the new… what? Surly we don’t want to get rid of old landmarks that have enriched our lives and our nation. I’m certain we don’t want to model the destructive new trends we see everyday. So what could we mean “out with the old and in with the new?” Some may respond, out with the old furnishings; in with the new. Out with the old night club; in with the new. Out with the old hair style; in with the new.
But for those who have accepted Jesus as Savior, this phrase is very clear. It means just what it says. In Christ, we’re out with the old nature and in with the new. We are no longer craving, or looking for satisfaction from the old worldly kind of joy, love, ambitions and attitudes. We have a new love, joy, hope, mind, attitude, purpose, outlook. We have a new motive. That motive is to glorify and magnify our Lord Jesus.
Dear Lord, help us to model the newness we have in You.
In God, I will keep on thanking Him for the newness of life through Christ Jesus. By Hertistine Washington/keeponthanking.com
